How is Wolf Neck B&B different from the B&B's in the village?
Wolf Neck B&B is different in several ways from the other B&B's in Freeport. The B&B is in our private residence which was built in 2002. We offer just one spacious waterfront accommodation with a private balcony overlooking the water, a private cozy sitting area with Cable TV and reclining chairs, and a comfortable bedroom with a waterview window seat and queen-sized bed where a gorgeous waterview welcomes you in the morning.
The B&B is in a very quiet, secluded, wooded area at the end of a dead-end gravel road where sometimes on a summer's night, the only noise is that of a hoot owl. Guests often comment on how quiet it is. There are no sounds of other guests coming & going. Ospreys, blue herons, bald eagles, egrets, sea gulls, ducks, deer and wild turkeys are often seen. On warm mornings, breakfast is enjoyed in the screened porch which offers expansive views of the beautiful, peaceful tidal Harraseeket River with it's shoreland birds and an occassional harbor seal. On those cooler mornings, breakfast is served in our dining area with water views and the warmth of the table-side fireplace.
Rather than being within walking distance of the shops in the village, Wolf Neck B&B is within walking distance of the beautiful Wolf Neck Woods State Park on the ocean shore of Casco Bay. There are 7 miles of easy walking trails within the park, many following the shore.
If you bring your bicycles, there are miles of scenic country roads to explore. If you bring your kayak, you may launch it right at the B&B and explore some of the Maine coastline. We also have 2 sea kayaks and a canoe available for rent. Maps can be provided for biking and kayaking.
Tell me more about kayaking.
The B&B is located on the tidal Harraseeket River which is ideal for kayaking. One may kayak all day in protected waters, or paddle outside South Freeport Harbor into Casco Bay and explore some of its 365 islands. Often a harbor seal will pop up beside you.
Fishermen may try their skills for striped bass or bluefish or mackeral from kayaks, or from shore here in the river.
We have 2 sea kayaks available for a reasonable rental fee which includes paddle, life preserver and a navigational map of the area. You may bring your own kayak and launch it in front of the B&B. Because we are on a tidal river, kayaking from the B&B is best 2 hours either side of high tide giving a 4 hour window to enjoy paddling. We also have a 15' fiberglass canoe available for rent.
